What is the lifespan of a sandwich panel?
A sandwich panel has a very long lifespan. Under normal conditions, a properly installed sandwich panel will last 30 to 50 years or more. The lifespan is mainly determined by the quality of the steel skins and the coating. With proper maintenance and the right coating for the environment, sandwich panels can last for decades without problems.
Can sandwich panels be cut to size?
Yes, absolutely. At Unisol, all panels are made to measure. We cut every panel to your exact dimensions in our own factory. This way you always have panels that fit perfectly and no material is wasted on site. Read more about our custom work.
Are sandwich panels fireproof?
This depends on the core material. Stone wool panels offer the highest fire resistance and can achieve a fire resistance classification of up to EI 60 or higher. PIR panels also have good fire resistance. EPS panels are less fire resistant, but Unisol uses EPS-SE, a self-extinguishing variant that meets standard fire safety requirements. The right choice depends on the fire safety requirements for your project.
What is the insulation value of sandwich panels?
The insulation value (Rc value) of a sandwich panel depends on the core material and the panel thickness. PIR panels achieve the highest insulation values with the smallest thickness. As a guideline:
- EPS panel 100mm: approximately Rc 2.8 m²K/W
- PIR panel 100mm: approximately Rc 4.5 m²K/W
- Stone wool panel 100mm: approximately Rc 2.5 m²K/W
For specific projects such as cold stores, we always calculate the required thickness based on the desired temperature and conditions.
Can sandwich panels also be used for ceilings?
Yes, sandwich panels are suitable for both walls and ceilings. For ceiling applications, specific profiles and fixing methods are used. The panels must also be calculated for the correct load capacity. Unisol supplies both wall panels and roof/ceiling panels.
What colours are sandwich panels available in?
Sandwich panels are available in a wide range of colours. We offer both paint colours (RAL) and plastisol colours. View our full colour range here.
How are sandwich panels connected to each other?
Sandwich panels are connected using a tongue and groove system. The panels interlock and are fixed to the supporting structure using concealed or visible fasteners. The connection is airtight and moisture-proof, which is important for the insulation performance.

What are the differences between wall panels and roof panels?
Wall panels and roof panels differ in profile and fixing method. Roof panels are designed to drain rainwater and have a specific profile for this. They are also calculated for the applicable snow and wind loads. Wall panels have other profiles and are installed differently. At Unisol, we supply both types.
